I’m counting down the days until the ski season begins. Mt Buller is my local hill so here’s a look and the historical snow depths with a quick and dirty Tableau Dashboard.
The data is blended from data.vic.gov.au where you can get the snow depths and visitor numbers for each Victorian resort and bom.gov.au for the maximum temperatures. It’s been aggregated at the weekly level (week of the year) by taking the average for that week. The natural snow depth data goes back to 1993, so there potential for more interesting things to be built in the future. The BOM data goes back to 1985. It’s missing a few days so I’ll probably aggregate nearby weather stations for a complete set.
